World Book Day Quiz

3rd March 2016

Year six pupils from Badgemore Primary School learn about collecting books

World Book Day was celebrated in style at Jonkers Rare Books with visitors from two local primary schools. St Mary's School came with a group of enthusiastic young bookworms, members of the schoolbook club, aged between 8 and 11 years and Badgemore Primary School sent a select group of their year six pupils, who asked intelligent and probing questions. All the children were engaged and looked with interest at a range of books, from a 1493 Suetonius to Enid Blyton first editions. Some of the children honed in on a copy of the Tempest with Arthur Rackham's illustrations, they had performed the play and loved the details in Rackham's drawings.

The children enjoyed seeing a range of rare books, loved the Beatrix Potter panorama books, the signed Enid Blyton and first edition of Jane Eyre, though they were glad that times had moved on and female authors need no longer worry about how a novel by a woman will be received.

After looking at the books the children completed this literary quiz, with one point for each correct answer the winning teams had an impressive 12 marks. Have a go and see how you get on.
