Working Titles of Famous Novels

Have you ever heard of Jane Austen’s acclaimed novel ‘First Impressions’? How about F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 20th Century masterpiece ‘Trimalchio in West Egg’? Well it wouldn’t be a surprise if you hadn’t as the author’s changed their minds about those titles settling on ones you’ll be much more familiar with: ‘Pride & Prejudice’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’.

For example, William Golding’s initial title for ‘Lord of the Flies’ was vetoed by one of his publishers who deemed ‘Strangers from Within’ too absurd.
