Barrack-Room Ballads and Other Verses
Methuen & Co., 1892.
First edition, large paper issue. Number 28 of 225 copies printed on Dutch handmade paper and signed by the publishers. Maroon buckram lettered in gilt on the spine and a with a gilt vignette of military trumpeter on the upper cover. Top edge gilt others uncut. A very good copy, front hinge fraying, a little rubbed at the edges and with an owner's name and date bound in. Uncommon by virtue of its limitation.
Includes some of Kipling's best loved poems of the late Victorian military, mostly written in the vernacular - Danny Deever, Gunga Din and Mandalay amongst many others. This was also Methuen's first publishing success.
