Inscribed to the half title page "To Vera Lynn, with admiration for too long Paul Gallico". A fine copy in a fine dustwrapper with only one short closed tear to the upper cover.
The fourth book following the adventures of the lovable London charwoman Mrs. Harris, "perhaps Mr. Gallico's most beloved creation" (New York Times, 1976).
This copy inscribed to Dame Vera Lynn, the English singer who during the Second World War became known as "The Forces' Sweetheart". Her popular songs include "We'll Meet Again" and "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square".
PROVENANCE: Dame Vera Lynn (1917-2020), British singer, authorial inscription. Included a certificate of authenticity signed by Virginia Lewis-Jones, Vera Lynn's daughter, confirming that "this book was owned by Dame Vera Lynn"
