The House at Pooh Corner
Methuen, 1928.
Pre-publication salesman's dummy. Salmon pink cloth, lettered and decorated gilt in the proof dustwrapper, which differs from the published version in that it is illustrated on the panels and spines but blank on the flaps. Plain endpapers (decorated in the published version). Illustrations throughout the printed section in black and white by E.H. Shepard. A fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper with a little wear to the head of the spine.
This issue was printed at the proofing stage, prior to the main publication, for the purposes of showing the format to prospective stocking bookshops. The principal difference from the published issue is that it is printed only as far as p.53, the remainder of the pages being blank. Other more minor differences are this issue is bound without the frontispiece; the dedication and introduction pages are blank DEDICATION and INTRODUCTION as place holder text. In the published version the heading 'Introduction' is replaced with 'Contradiction'. The contents page is incomplete.
