The Phoenix and the Carpet
Newnes, 1904.
First edition. 8vo. Publisher's blue cloth with gilt lettering and colour decoration. Top edge gilt. Colour frontis and other black and white illustrations by H.R. Millar. A very good copy indeed, light rubbing to the corners and tender front hinge, but generally a very bright and attractive copy.
A fantasy novel featuring five children, Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane and the Lamb whose mother buys them a carpet to replace one from the nursery that they have destroyed in an accidental fire. An egg found in the carpet hatches into a talking Phoenix who explains that the carpet is a magic one which will grant them three wishes a day. So begin their adventures.
