Cathay Translations by Ezra Pound For the Most Part From the Chinese of Rihaku, From the Notes of the Late Ernest Fenollosa, and the Decipherings of the Professors Mori and Ariga.
Elkin Mathews, 1915.
First edition. Publisher's buff wrappers printed in black. Author's presentation copy, inscribed on the second blank, "Sybil fr. E.P. 1920". Spine slightly browned and some foxing throughout, but a very good copy of a fragile production.
One of 1000 copies. Pound's modernist interpretation of classical Chinese poetry, written whilst working as secretary for W.B. Yeats. The recipient was almost certainly Sybil Sassoon, Siegfried Sassoon's cousin, whom Pound met through her somewhat perplexing friendship with Wyndham Lewis.
