First edition, first issue with "muffatees" misspelt on page 15. Tan paper covered boards with dark green lettering and pictorial onlay to upper cover. Author's presentation copy, inscribed on the front end paper, "For Miss Davidson / with love from / Beatrix Potter / Oct 24th 04" Pictorial endpapers and 26 colour plates. A very good copy with some wear to the corners at the base of the spine and to the front joint. Internally fresh with an erased pencil name to the verso of the frontispiece and marginal closed tears to pages 21/22 and 58/59. Housed in a quarter morocco case and chemise.
Miss Madeline Davidson was the young Beatrix Potter's governess between 1875-1878. They maintained a correspondence throughout Potter's life and she received a small legacy from Potter's will on her death.
Presentation copies of Benjamin Bunny are uncommon.
