SIGNED BY POTTER TO HER HUSBAND'S FAMILY
Icaa Christmas Card
1934.
Cream card, 16.5 x 12 cm. Upper cover shows line drawing of Jemima Puddleduck and "Greetings" is printed in brown. Inside the card is a line drawing of Jemima and Peter Rabbit talking, whilst Tom Kitten peers over the fence. In the text Jemima invites Peter for tea, assuring him there will be no cats present. The card is inscribed "[From] Uncle Willie and Aunt Beatrix" to "[To] all of you / A Merry Christmas / 1934". A near fine example, with some light spotting to the upper cover. A rare, ephemeral item with a lovely family association.
This is one of a small series of cards produced by Beatrix Potter to sell on behalf the children's charity ICAA. It is likely that this is inscribed by Potter to the children of her brother in law, Edward Heelis.
PROVENANCE: Edward Alexander Heelis (Beatrix Potter's brother in law); by family descent.
