LE CARRE, John The Karla Trillogy: Comprising, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy; The Honourable Schoolboy; Smiley's People

Hutchinson, 1974.

Three volumes, all first editions. Each volume in original boards and pictorial dustwrapper. Each volume signed by the author on the title page with the first volume, further inscribed to the parents of his close friend John Calmann, on the half title, "Hans & Gerta from David with affection". Fine copies in fine or near fine dustwrappers, a trace of wear to the spine ends and one corner of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

A superb set, all signed with a fine association for the first volume. Hans and Gerta Calmann owned Perridge House in the village of Pilton, where Le Carre lived in the mid 1950s whilst he was teaching at Edgarley School. The Calmann's son John was at Oxford with Le Carre (David Cornwell as he was then known) and remained a close friend until his untimely death in 1980. He was the dedicatee of The Naive and Sentimental Lover.
A classic work of Cold War, it is critically regarded as one of the best post war espionage works, William Boyd hailing it as "Le Carre's masterwork." Identifiable association copies are rare.
