First edition, large paper de luxe issue. Number 275 of 652 copies signed by Grace. Publisher's binding of half black roan with gilt titles to spine and upper cover. Top edge gilt, others uncut Illustrated throughout with forty-five mounted plates, engraved on India paper. An exceptional copy, with the spine a little faded and some trifling wear to the corners but most unusually, entirely free from repair or damage. Internally fresh with a couple of marks to the endpapers and superficial splits to the hinges. A remarkable survival.
The classic technical and historical treatise on cricket by the game's most famous and colourful player. Due to its size and the fragile nature of the roan binding copies are now almost inevitably heavily repaired or rebound. Untouched copies in such nice condition as this are very rare indeed.
