First edition. Slate blue cloth with gilt lettering and decoration in white, blue and green, depicting Thames scenes and elegant white swans. Top edge gilt. 75 colour illustrations and a map. A very good copy of one of the most beautiful colour illustrated Thames books, ink name to front pastedown and front hinge tender.
This book is the only one to include colour illustrations for chapter headings. In order to achieve this the publishers had to print these pages on coated stock and this gives the book an expensive feel - so expensive that the experiment was not repeated. One of 3000 copies in the 20/- series.
