First octavo edition by Baskerville. 8vo. Contemporary tree calf, gilt rules, six compartments to spine decorated gilt, red morocco title label lettered gilt. Engraved frontispiece. Marbled endpapers. A very good copy. Upper joint cracked but holding, lower joint starting, slight split to the base of the spine, wear to spine ends and corners. This notwithstanding, a sound, unsophisticated copy. Ownership inscriptions to front endpaper and first blank.
An attractive edition of Virgil's three great works, among the greatest poems in Latin literature; the Eclogues, the Georgics and the Aeneid.
