Tercentenary edition of Shakespeare's play, with Rackham illustrations. 4to. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and vignettes. With a full page original drawing of Bottom, Puck and fairies, inscribed by the artist, "To Nurse Morley from her obstinate (so it is alleged!) but grateful patient, Arthur Rackham, Limpsfield,1938" Forty colour plates mounted under tissue guards, plus black and white drawings. A very good copy.
A remarkable presentation copy with a detailed and whimsical drawing of the famous scene with Bottom awakening with the asses head, surrounded by the mischievous Puck and other fairies. The recipient of the book was Madge Morley, who nursed Rackham in his final years.
PROVENANCE: A gift from Rackham to his nurse Madge Morley; passed down by family descent.
