First edition illustrated by Brock. 12mo. Deluxe issue. Full white vellum, elaborately decorated and titled with gilt. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Eight colour plates and numerous black and white drawings. A very good copy indeed, bright and fresh, slightest bowing to vellum and light foxing to frontis tissue guard.
Dickens completed writing A Christmas Carol in November 1843 and was determined to produce it as a beautiful gift book. Once the book came out of copyright various publishers commissioned artists to create their own version of the story as a gift book. This deluxe issue with Brock's perfectly Victorian style illustrations is the perfect edition for rereading each Christmas.
