Second edition, revised and enlarged. Three volumes. Folio. Original red cloth, lettered gilt, in the pictorial dustwrappers. Top edges gilt. Colour frontispieces to each volume, forty further plates in colour and many more illustrations, upwards of 3,000, in black and white throughout the text, A near fine set in very good dustwrappers, uniformly faded to the spines, with a large chip to the lower panel of the first volume.
This revision of the first edition, which was published some twenty-seven years earlier and when the serious study of the subject was in its infancy, is a comprehensive survey of the whole field of English furniture, taking into account the latest research.
It is thus considered the best edition, as new entries have been added, more illustrations included, and as nearly all articles and notes have been amended or expanded, with some sections entirely re-written.
