INSCRIBED TO CELANDINE KENNINGTON
The Intelligent Woman's Guide to Socialism and Capitalism
Constable & Co., 1928.
First edition. 8vo. Original green cloth, decorated with Celtic knot design, in (supplied) pictorial dustwrapper with design by Eric Kennington. Top edge gilt. Inscribed by the author on the half title, "To Celandine Kennington from Bernard Shaw." A very good copy, a little spine fading and occasional light spots to contents. In a very good dustwrapper, some small chips and creases, but bright and attractive.
Celandine and Eric Kennington were great friends of T.E. Lawrence, with whom Eric had worked to provide illustrations for Lawrence's Magnum Opus, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom. Also involved in the publication of Seven Pillars were Shaw and his wife and thus the couples became acquainted.
PROVENANCE: From the library of Celandine Kennington, wife of the dustjacket designer, Eric Kennington, with Kennington name on front endpaper.
