Taunt's Map and Guide to the Thames - a New Map of the River Thames From Oxford to London, From entirely new surveys, taken during the summer of 1871: with a guide, giving every information required by the Tourist, the Oarsman and the Angler.
Taunt, 1872.
First edition. Oblong 8vo. Dark green cloth with gilt titles and blind stamped decoration. 51pp plus index and adverts. This is a charming guide to the river including all kinds of information for the river goer and including 24 sectional maps and 79 small albumen photographs of the Thames. A very good copy of one of the most sought after guides to the Thames. Internally the pages are clean and in very good order, save some scattered foxing and some abrasion resulting in small areas of loss to the front free endpaper.
Henry Taunt was a keen photographer and hit upon the idea of including small original photographs within his published books. Inevitably produced in small numbers due to the labour and costs involved. This volume was advertised as having 80 photographs, but was actually issued with space for only 79.
