First edition. Two volumes. Tall 8vo. Original red cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine and with the regimental crest in gilt on the upper cover. Top edge gilt. Eleven maps, four of them double page. A very good set, slight shelf wear and a small mark to the cover of vol II.
Kipling's 18 year old son, John Kipling, served with the Irish Guards and was listed as missing during the Battle of Loos in September 1915. As a tribute to his son's regiment Kipling wrote this history of their service in the 1914-18 war.
