New edition. Seven volumes. 8vo. Bound by Bickers in half brown morocco, raised bands on the spine and gilt lettering and ruling. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers and bookplates of Arthur's Club to the front pastedown Black and white frontis is a portrait of the author, protective tissue guard, which has a central crease. A very good set, with a little rubbing to some joints, but sturdy and attractive.
During his time at Oxford Symonds was awarded a prize for an essay on the Renaissance and he determined to study it further. He worked on this project over two decades, originally releasing it in seven volumes between 1875 and 1886, the work highlights the reawakening of art and literature in Italy. This edition is a uniform edition.
