One of 50 copies in a special full morocco binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, designed by John Buckland-Wright, of contrasting burgundy and green morocco with a bee motif to the covers, signed by the editor. The dedication copy, inscribed by de Chair under the printed dedication to Oliver Lyttleton, "For Oliver from Somerset in memory of a happy partnership at the ministry of Production and in Parliament. 15 April 1942 to 9 November 1944", and in the second volume on the verso of the title page, "For Oliver from Somerset (a fellow Bonapartist) 12 February 1946". Title page vignettes by John Buckland-Wright, map endpapers by Somerset de Chair, frontispiece photographs of Napoleon. A near fine set, spines slightly toned. Housed in matching morocco entry slipcase.
Oliver Lyttleton, later Viscount Chandos, was a British businessman who was brought into the government as Minister of Production during the Second World War. At this time de Chair acted as his Parliamentary Private Secretary, whilst researching this book.
