Six Drawings From When We Were Very Young
Methuen, 1925.
Six large hand-coloured plates, each with a printed verse from When We Were Very Young, surrounded by E.H. Shepard's drawings. One of 250 numbered sets, this set being 120. The plates are entitled: Vespers, Happiness, Lines and Squares, Teddy Bear, The King's Breakfast and Hoppity. Each drawing mounted and framed.
This delightful suite of plates was issued in a portfolio just after the publication of A.A. Milne's first book of poems, When We Were Very Young. The plates were designed to be framed and mounted (as here) and thus it is uncommon to find the entire set of six still together. The poems have become beloved by generations of children and the verse entitled Teddy Bear gives us our first glimpse of Winnie the Pooh.
