First U.K. edition. 4to. Blue cloth with gilt lettering and illustration. In the original dustwrapper which has a colour plate on the upper cover and line drawings to cover and spine. Twelve colour plates mounted under captioned tissue guards and numerous line drawings in the text. A near fine copy, previous ownership inscription on the front pastedown, trace of speckling to the base of the spine and light spotting to the page edges, in a very good dustwrapper indeed which shows a little wear to the edges but is an unusually attractive copy.
Willcox Smith considered these illustrations to be amongst her best work and bequeathed the set of original illustrations to the Library of Congress.
