First edition illustrated by Jennie Harbour. Small 4to. Cloth backed paper covered boards, illustrated in colour. Twelve colour plates and line drawings in the text by Jennie Harbour. A very good copy indeed of a book which is rarely encountered in good condition. This copy is clean and bright, with corners just minor rubbing to the extremities of the boards. The original owner has written their name neatly at the top of the front free endpaper.

Stories include: The Little Match Girl, The Snow Queen, The Little Mermaid, The Real Princess, Thumbelina, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and others.
Jennie Harbour illustrated a series of fairy tale books and postcards for Raphael Tuck in the 1920's and 1930's. There is very little known about her life, but her illustrations are instantly recognisable. They have a distinctive freshness, influenced by the art deco movement and by illustrators of the fin de siecle and art nouveau period.
