A Christmas Carol

In Prose, being A Ghost Story for Christmas

DICKENS, Charles / BROCK, C.E.

EDITION DE LUXE

DICKENS, Charles A Christmas Carol In Prose, being A Ghost Story for Christmas

Dent, 1905.

First edition illustrated by Brock. 12mo. Deluxe issue. Full white vellum, elaborately decorated and titled with gilt. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Eight colour plates and numerous black and white drawings. A fine copy, with slight bowing to the boards. Remarkably clean and bright.

Dickens completed writing A Christmas Carol in November 1843 and sought to have it published as a lavishly produced book. Once out of copyright, publishers and illustrators competed to produce their own version of the work. This deluxe issue with Brock's perfectly Victorian style illustrations, neatly captures the gift book style of the original.
