Introduction by John Ruskin
Chatto & Windus, 1875.
Second edition thus. 8vo. Original green cloth with gilt lettering and decoration. Illustrated with Cruikshank's black and white drawings. A very good example indeed.
The stories of the Brother's Grimm first appeared in English in two volumes, in 1823 and 1826. Printed in small numbers and by two different publisher's the first editions are almost unobtainable in original condition. This one volume edition with Ruskin's introduction and still using Cruikshank's original engravings is an early and authentic version of the Brother's tales and is hard to find in nice condition. Fairy tales include: The Twelve Dancing Princesses; Tom Thumb; The Elves and the Shoe Maker; Snow-Drop and Hansel and Grettel, plus many more well known stories.
