Christina Foyle was one of Wheatley's earliest patrons, and bought several of his books for her Book Club. Wheatley's right of centre political views were recognised by Christina, of the bookshop Foyles, who invited him to be a Patron for the new Right Book Club, "to counter, to some extent," as Wheatley wrote, "the spate of subversive stuff which, for several years past, had been pouring from the Left Book Club under the aegis of Victor Gollancz"
