INSCRIBED by Allingham to John Greenaway (Kate Greenaway's brother) on the half title, "W. John Greenaway with Helen Allingham's Kind Regards". Tipped in to the verso front free endpaper is a self portrait of the young Helen Allingham, signed in pencil with her maiden name, "H.Paterson". Eighty one colour illustrations, under captioned tissue guards, reproduced from Allingham's watercolours. This charming association copy is in very good condition, there is some offsetting on the half title page from the drawing opposite and a couple of marks to the upper cover.

Helen Allingham met Kate Greenaway (John Greenaway's sister) during their early training days at the Slade School of Art and the two became close friends. In 1874 Helen Paterson married the Irish poet, William Allingham. and after Allingham's widowhood in 1889, Greenaway and Allingham frequently went on painting expeditions together.
