First separate edition. One of 725 copies signed by the author in blue ink to the frontispiece. Publisher's quarter cream cloth over paper covered boards with Maugham's insignia in red to the upper cover, lettered gilt to spine. Portrait frontis of Maugham. A very good copy with some fading to the boards.
This is the more common second state, printed on handmade cream paper. Just two copies were in the first state, printed on blue paper.
