Boni and Liveright, 1924.
First edition. Original quarter tan cloth with sand-coloured paper boards and black lettering. A very good copy indeed, with a little wear to the edges.
The first publication of two of O’Neill’s expressionist plays, both of which are considered to be highly experimental in his exploration of the disintegration of the human psyche. Both examine the relationships between husbands and wives - the first a study of miscegenation, inspired by the African American spiritual of the same name. The second follows the love-hate relationship between a playwright husband and his actress wife.
