First edition. Red cloth in pictorial dustwrapper, upper cover design by E.H. Davie. Colour frontis and line drawings by E.H. Davie. A near fine book, with just one or two small spots, in a very good bright dustwrapper, which is clean and attractive, with small v shaped nick to the top edge, strengthened at rear by old tape.
The first of the Circus books, which along with The Secret Island, The Wishing Chair and The Enchanted Wood, was published by Newnes between 1937-1939 in a larger format with colour frontispieces. All four books were the first of popular series and all four are now extremely scarce as first editions.
