First US edition illustrated by Clarke. 4to. Grey cloth with Art Nouveau style decoration and lettering in black. Top edge gilt and other page edges untrimmed. In the publisher's original box with pictorial onlay and black lettering. Sixteen tipped-in colour plates and twenty-four striking full page black and white plates, plus numerous smaller black and white drawings. A fine copy in a good box, the onlay browned and some splits and wear to extremities.
The illustrations in this book are quite spectacular. The colour plates have a feel of Kay Nielsen to them, whilst the black and white images are very reminiscent of the work of Aubrey Beardsley.
