An Anthology Selected From Books Recently Published By Basil Blackwell
Fifty New Poems for Children An Anthology Selected From Books Recently Published By Basil Blackwell
Basil Blackwell, 1924.
Second impression. 8vo. Publisher's paper covered boards with pictorial label to upper cover and title label to spine. A very good copy, a little loss to the spine label, with a clipped inscription from the front free endpaper.
An anthology of children's poetry, notable for an appearance of J. R. R. Tolkien's poem 'Goblin Feet'. Its appearance here is not recorded by Hammond. On both the contents page and at the end of the poem, his surname is misspelled "Tolkein".
It has been suggested by the Tolkien scholar Douglas A. Anderson that the poem printed immediately after Tolkien's here, 'Romance' by E.F.A. Geach, inspired the Middle Earth poem 'The Road Goes Ever On'.
The anthology also includes poems by Robert Graves, Eleanor Farjeon and Edith Sitwell.
