First Deluxe edition, number 379 of 1150 copies printed on large paper and each signed by Rackham. Large 4to. Full white vellum with gilt decoration and lettering. Top edge gilt. Silk ties present. 30 colour plates mounted onto brown art paper and protected by tissue guards with printed captions. In addition to the colour plates are numerous line drawings in the text. A near very good copy, covers a little dusty and with small stain to the upper spine. Foxing to endpapers and first blank mainly, also effecting the occasional tissue-guard.
Together with its companion volume, The Rhinegold and the Valkyrie, Wagner's epic tale of dwarves, Gods and heroes allowed Rackham the chance to draw on the German art which inspired him so greatly. His paintings for these volumes are often considered amongst his best work.
