The Tale of Johnny Town-Mouse
F. Warne & Co., 1918.
First edition, first state with the terminal N missing from the London on the title page. 12mo. Grey paper covered boards and pictorial onlay. Author's presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the endpaper, "For Mrs Cannon with all good wishes and kind remembrance from Beatrix H[eelis] Xmas 1918" Pictorial endpapers and lots of colour illustrations by the author. A very good copy, just a little worn at the corners.
The first printing of this title has an error on the title page where the "N" is missing from the end of the word London. This error was quickly corrected, so copies of the first issue are scarce.
Mrs Cannon was the wife of Potter's farm manager, John Cannon, whose two children were the dedicatees of The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck. The family lived at Hill Top with Potter in a separate annex added to the main house.
