Second edition. 8vo. Dark green cloth with gilt lettering and monograms on the front, gilt lettering and heraldic device on the spine, and red linear decoration on the front and spine. Top edge gilt. Twenty colour illustrations by J Hardwicke Lewis, one black and white photograph of Symonds, and one sketch by him. A very good copy, darkened to spine with some wear to spine ends and corners. Previous owner's inscription to the front endpaper.
The text for this book was originally published in 1892, with Margaret Symonds' sketch illustrations. This is a more luxurious edition with colour illustrations, which details the life of the author and his family in the Swiss alpine town of Davos during the latter part of the 19th century.
