The English Lakes Described by W.T. Palmer
A & C Black, 1905.
First edition. Large 4to. The deluxe issue of this delightful book, number 65 of 250 copies signed by Alfred Heaton Cooper. White pictorial buckram with gilt lettering. Top edge gilt and red silk page marker present. Seventy five colour plates reproduced from watercolours, each protected by captioned tissue guards. A very good copy, buckram just a little dusty
One of the most sought after of the A & C Black deluxe editions. Alfred Heaton Cooper's paintings wonderfully evoke the colours and scenes of the Lake District. Heaton Cooper was a struggling artist when he was approached by A. & C. Black. The commission for this book gave him enough money to open a studio in Grasmere. The paintings for this book certainly achieve their aim of providing "a visual description of a particular place."
