First edition illustrated by Jennie Harbour. Small 4to. Cloth backed paper covered boards, illustrated in colour. Twelve colour plates and line drawings in the text by Jennie Harbour. A very good copy indeed of a scarce book, very difficult to find in such nice condition. Some very light wear to spine ends and corners, browning to half title and light spotting to page edges. Neat ownership inscription to half-title verso. Overall a very attractive copy.

Jennie Harbour illustrated a series of fairy tale books and postcards for Raphael Tuck in the 1920's and 1930's. There is very little known about her life, but her illustrations are instantly recognisable. They have a distinctive freshness, influenced by the Art Deco movement and by illustrators of the fin de siecle and Art Nouveau periods.
