First edition. 4to. Quarter parchment over red cloth boards, in pictorial dustwrapper. Inscribed by Simon to the half title "For V. Masraff - who loves good wine - and good books! - André L. Simon 14 October 1957" Illustrated with 24 colour photographs by Percy Hennell and 8 charming maps and decorations by Asgeir Scott. A very good copy, in a very good dustwrapper with some wear to the edges and a repaired closed tear to the upper panel.
The contents cover the wines of Bordeaux, Burgundy, Rhone, Loire and Alsace. In addition there are chapters on wines of note from other regions, Brandy, the art of wine making, storage and service of wine. Simon was one the most respected wine writers of the 20th century, receiving a CBE and the Légion d'Honneur. The Vintners' Company had made him an honorary member of their ancient company, the first non-Englishman to have been so honoured.
