Dumont was a Swiss French political writer, and in 1788 met the Comte de Mirabeau, who was to become the leader of the moderates in the National Assembly of France. During 1789, Mirabeau became one of the strongest early leaders of the revolution, a prominent member of the Assembly and was provided with much of the material for his oratory by Dumont, who "left behind him a timebomb in the form of a manuscript account of his experiences with Mirabeau... in the form of a text entitled Souvenirs sur Mirabeau, published in 1832." [Blamires].
