and Other Tales by the Brothers Grimm
Little Brother and Little Sister and Other Tales by the Brothers Grimm
Constable, 1917.
First edition. 4to. Green cloth with gilt lettering and vignettes to upper cover and spine. Pictorial endpapers with a purple line drawing of a fairy queen and her elfin helpers. There are twelve colour plates (one with tiny corner crease) with printed captions below, each mounted onto brown art paper. There are also many black and white drawings, some full page. A very good copy indeed, bright and very attractive. Occasional scattered foxing and a small nick to the top of p.79.
A charming version of Grimm's fairy tales accompanied by Rackham's illustrations. Fairy tales include: Snow-white and Rose Red; Thumbling's Travels etc.
Rackham's depiction of Grimm's fairytales, when at the height of his creative powers. Of Little Brother & Little Sister, Fred Gettings claims, "it would be possible to select any single colour picture in order to demonstrate Rackham's art at its finest".
