The original scraperboard drawing of the dustwrapper design. 18 x 22.5cm. Signed and dated in the top left hand corner and annotated to the rear. In very good condition indeed, with two insignificant marks to the edges.
From p. 51, chapter 5, and also the dustwrapper design, of The Birds of the Lonely Lake, published by Ernest Benn in 1961. "When daylight came the sheld-duck took their ten young ones down the sloping beach of the island, and they all entered the water."
The Birds of the Lonely Lake is a description of bird life during a typical year, when BB was in charge of a bird sanctuary on the shores of Lake Coniston.
