Suppose a Tree Fell Down When We Were Underneath It. An original drawing from The House at Pooh Corner.
1928.
175mm x 245mm. Original pen, ink and whitener drawing of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, hand in hand, walking through the 100 Acre Woods in the wind. Signed to the lower left corner. Also captioned in pencil by the artist under the drawing beneath the mount), "3. The Storm "Suppose a tree fell down when we were underneath it"", and with Shepard's name and address (Long Meadow) in pen to the reverse of the mount. Fine condition, with a little browning under the mount.
A superb, large drawing for the full page illustration from The House at Pooh Corner, from Chapter VIII "In which Piglet Does a Very Grand Thing."
This is Shepard's original drawing for the book with the address on the reverse to which he moved in 1927. It is one of only eight full page drawings for the book. Shepard's drawings from the Pooh books are generally found as small vignettes, often drawn later as private commissions. Original full page drawings are very seldom encountered in commerce and highly sought.
