Jacob and Richard Tonson, great-nephews of Jacob Tonson the elder, "the country's finest publisher of literary works" (ODNB), enthusiastically continued the firm's tradition of publishing classical works. Their production of The Epistles and Panegyric, with its flattering dedication to the Earl of Carnarvon, was first printed in 1722, with this impression following in 1741 and a later one in 1767. These successive publications illustrate the eighteenth century appreciation of the author, introduced with Hearne's critical edition at Oxford in 1703.
