First edition. 12mo. Original green cloth with bevelled edges, lettered in gilt on the spine and upper cover. All edges gilt. Portrait frontis and vignettes in the text by Alfred Concanen. Facsimile letter from Charles Dickens on separate leaf after the dedication page. A very good copy, bookplate to the front pastedown and W.H.Smith blindstamp to the front free endpaper. A few marks to the boards and occasional spotting internally, but generally an attractive copy of an uncommon item.
Menken was an American actress, famous both in America and in Europe, who became one of the highest paid actresses of her time. Infelica is a collection of her poems, published shortly after her death in August 1868.
