First edition. Blue cloth lettered in gilt. Inscribed on the front free endpaper to B.C. Johnston from Atchison's brother Arthur "In mem. G.T.A.". With an ALS from Arthur Atchison to Johnston explaining that the book is a gift, loosely laid in. Black and white photographic illustrations, plus charts. A very good copy, a little mottling to the cloth.
B.C. Johnstone, or Banner Carruthers Johnstone, rowed for Trinity College, Cambridge, and then for Leander Club, Henley, rowing for the gold winning eight during the 1908 Summer Olympics. Later the rowing correspondent for the Daily Telegraph.
