Third edition (fifteenth thousand). 8vo. Original red cloth lettered and stamped in gilt. All edges gilt. Illustrated throughout by John Tenniel. A very good copy. The original cloth is unrepaired, with some staining to the lower spine and rear cover and a small scuff to rear joint. Otherwise clean and attractive. Hinges are sound and apart from occasional marks the contents are clean, with all illustrations in good order.
Originally published in 1866, early editions in original cloth are relatively uncommon. This classic story was thought up by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (pseudonym Lewis Carroll) on a summer's day on the river Isis near Oxford.
