First edition. 4to. Original maroon cloth titled in gilt on the spine and upper cover. Photogravure frontispiece and thirty two plates of black and white photographs plus two fold out maps to rear. A very good copy indeed, browning to the endpapers and a short tear to the frontis tissue guard. Previous owner's name on the front free endpaper.
Bruce's famous account on his leading of the first attempt to scale Everest, which had to be abandoned when an avalanche killed seven Sherpa.
