First edition. 4to. Original blue cloth with gilt titles and gilt decoration to upper cover based on a design by the author. Twenty two black and white illustrations from photographs of the village, its surroundings and some of the more noteworthy houses. In a pocket to the rear is a table of the Manorial Lords of Shiplake. A very good copy indeed, boards uncommonly clean and bright, front hinge slightly tender. Frontispiece bound opposite page 1. Bookplate of James Bennett on the front pastedown.
A very interesting local history item written in gossipy style intended originally as a small leaflet, which gradually developed into the very large tome which was eventually published.
