First edition. Original publisher's cloth titled and decorated in black and gilt. Forty engraved plates plus a further 60 illustrations in the text, mainly from drawings by the author's son. A near fine copy, with the cloth bright and crisp. Light foxing to the page edges, occasional looseness between sections and a small abrasion to the rear endpaper.
